Work this month has remained focused on the overhaul of 31463 and our main job at the moment is to get the roof repairs done.
Starting on the power unit roof section, the roof hatch doors and center walk ways edges have been painted into primer then gloss. The gutters have been painted in primer then 2 coats of black gloss. Once the paint had dried the roof hatch doors and walk ways were refitted.
During the prep work on the boiler roof section 2 cracks were found under the brackets that hold 2 air tanks, these have been ground and welded. A bracket for the electrical conduit has been welded back on, which was removed when the plate work was replaced. This roof section internally has since been painted in primer and then into gloss and is ready to be turned the right way up.
The clean air compartment roof has been prepped internally for a repaint but during this work you guessed it, we found more rot. The surrounding areas have since been painted in primer and gloss and the roof section has been put the right way up so we can cut out the rotten section and replace the plate.
The air tank that lives in the clean air compartment roof has been stripped of paint and painted into primer.
A couple of pipes from the power unit have been stripped of paint and painted into primer then gloss.
A frame for the little end bearings to be pushed out of the conrods has been made.
The loco batteries have been checked and charged.
